A complexo-spectrophotometric approach has been developed for the speciation of Cr(H l)/Cr( VI) and V(l V)A/( V) in an aqueous system. In the presence of a complexing ligand, EDTA and citrate buffered medium the Cr(lll) complex absorbs at 390 and 545 nm, while Cr(VI) has its own absorption peak at 350 nm. Simultaneous analysis of Cr(lll)/Cr(IV) in the region of spectral overlap in UV has been realized through the graphical analysis of the spectral data. This approach has been found useful in the micro analysis of chromium species. The vanadium-EDTA species due to their distinct absorption character! sties in U V and visible region have been characterized thtough a spectral differentiation approach. The quantification limit for V(IV) at785nm of 6.7μmL and for V(V) at 400 nm of 11.5 μg/mL has been observed.
