The binary and ternary stability constants of metal chelates derived from p-substituted phenylhydrazones of pyruvic acid, viz., 2-(phenylhydrazono) propanoic acid (PHP), and 2-(p-nitro-phenylhdrazono) propanoic acid (NPP) with some alkaline-earth metal ions, i.e., Mg (II), Ca (II), Sr(ll) and Ba(ll) involving some other chelating agents like catechol, salicylic acid, ethylenediamine, 1,10* phenanthroline, proline, hydroxyproline, β-alanine„ and glycine have been determined potentiometrically at 30 °C and 0.10 M (KNO ) ionic strenght by employing Irving-Rossotti and Santappa-Ramamoorthy methods in 40% (v/v) ethanol-water medium,. In presence of PNP or NPP, SA and phen act as primary ligands while all others function as secondary ones.
