Synthesis and Characterization of Some Metal Chelates of Istin-2-(5-Nitropyridyl) Hydrazone

Complexes of isatin-2-(5-nitropyridyl) hydrazone with Co(ll), Ni(ll), Cu(ll), Pd(II), VO(IV), Pb(ll), UO2 (VI) and Th(l V) were prepared. Mode ofbonding, molecular and geometrical structures are discussed for these complexes on the basis of their vibrational, 1HNMR and electronic spectra together with analytical data and magnetic susceptibility. The prementioned data suggest octahedral structure for Ni(ll) and Co(ll) chelates, square planar for Cu(ll) and Pd(ll) chelates and square pyramidal for VO(IV) chelate. The ligating properties of the free ligand towards these metal ions are also reported.
