5-(3' 4'- Methylene dioxybenzyladine) amino-1, 3, 4, - thiadiazole - 2- thiol (TDTP) forms a red coloured water soluble complex with platinum (IV) In acidic buffer. The complex exhibits absorption maxima at 418 nm with a molar absorptivity of 4.52 x 104 I mol-1 cm-1 The system obeys Beer's law over the concentration range of 1.5 - 22.0 ppm. The sandell sensitivity is 23.48 ng cm-2. This is used as a reagent for spectrometry determination of platinum (IV) in isolation and in alloy compositions.
