Ten new azo coumarins have been synthesised using Knoevenagel reaction. A substituted aldehyde was prepared by the condensation of diazotised 0-chloroaniline and salicylaldehyde. New azo coumarins were obtained by the aforesaid reaction of aldehyde and a series of 10 malonanilic acids. These coumarins were screened as antimicrobial and potential carcinostats. Results are encouraging.
