Trace enrichment of zinc from an aqueous phase has been achieved through sorption of its oxinate complex onto microcrystalline naphthalene. It is back extracted simply by shaking with a xylene -H NO3 mixture and determined by flame atomic absorption in air acetylene mode. The procedure has been successfully employed toward zinc analysis in aqueous samples, human hair and alloy samples.
