Palladium reacts with 5-5' (3-(2-Pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazine-5,6 diyl) bis-2-furansulfonie acid disodium salt (Ferene-TM) to form a yellow colored 1:2 complex suitable for spectrophotometric determination of the metal at pH 1.8-1.9. The absorbance of the complex is measured at λmax 432 nm (£ 2.17x104 1. mol-1. cm-1). Many diverse ions do not interfere. The method is applied to analyse natural aqueous samples spiked with palladium ( 0.2-1.0 ppm ) and commercial palladium catalysts supported on CaC03, Al2O3 and activated charcoal matrices.
