The catalytic hydrogenolysis of n-heptane on coprecipitated Ni-Th catalysts lias been studied in flow system under atmospheric pressure of hydrogen and 475 K. Hydrogenolysis was the only reaction on all catalysts. The distribution 'of the initial hydrogenolytic products has been found different from that on classical nickel catalysts and similar to the case of palladium and platinum* The presence of Thorium in the catalyst has improved the activity and increased the surface area. Furthermore the catalytic behavior of Ni-Th system does not resemble that of nickel. The results could be explained by the mechanisni involving an ααγ intermediate triadsorbed species.
