The interactions between β-naphthyl thiourea and iodine have been studied spectrophotomet-rically in the UV~visible region. Formation constants and thermodynamic data were computed for the shifted iodine band of the 1:1 charge-transfer complex in carbontetrachloride and chloroform*. In the ultraviolet region, the mechanism of interation differs according to the electron donor concentration. The formation of a D.A2 complex is most probably in case of using more dilute solution. This shows the dual property of iodine and confirms the presence of iodine dimer. Band molar extinction coefficients of UV charge-transfer bands are reported, and the must-potential of the donar were calculated for different systems.
