Kinetics of oxidation of L- Ascorbic acid (H2A) by sodium perborate (SPB) in perchloric acid medium revealed first order dependence in each [SPB] and [H2A]. Reaction rate has been inhibited by [HCIO4] at constant ionic strength (μ). Added salts such as NH4BO2 and NaCIO4 did not affect the rate to any significant extent. These observations coupled with solvent effect studies substantiated the participation of HA- and BO- in the rate limiting step.
