Beta-Alanine as Lead Antidote

Beta-alanine was found to have a high therapeutic index in mice. It binds firmly to lead and the resulting complex is water-soluble. Elimination of lead by beta alanine from lead-intoxicated animals has been proved in the present work and the effect of beta-alanine on other metals is being thoroughly investigated.
