The secondary organosilicon chloride (Me2Si)3,CSiMeHCI undergoes hydrolysis (in H2O-Me-CN) and methanolysis to give (Me3Si)3,CSiMe(OH)H and (Me3Si)3CSiMe(OMe)H respectively. The methanolysis of (Me3Si)3CSiMeHCI is markedly accelerated by base and it seems that attack by the nucleophile is involved in the rate-determining step.
