4 [N-Benzoyl) amino ] antipyrine (BAApy) chelates of the formulae ZrOX2 nBAApy (X=CI, Br, NO3, NCS, NCSe or BPh4; X=1, n= 2; X=CIO4, n=3) have been synthesized and characterised on the basis of analytical, conductance, molecule weight, magnetic moment, infrared and thermogravimetric data of the chealtes. The i.r. spectra of the chealtes reveal that BAApy act as bidentate ligand and co-ordinate through carbonyl oxygen atoms (of the pyrazolone and amide groups) forming seven-membered chelate ring.
