The synthesis, acid-base equilibria and palladium-ion chelating tendencies of PHDBM 2~Me~, 3-Me, and 4-Me-PHDBM are reported. From potentiometric equilibrium measurements of hydrogen-ion concentration at 30°C and ionic strenght 0.10M (KNO3), in 75% dioxen-water medium, the values of the stability constants of PHDBM, 2-Me, 3-Me-, and 4-Me-PHDBM complexes with palladium nitrate have been evaluated. Probable structures of palladium chleates are inferred from the electronic absorption spectra and infrared examination of the solid palladium complexes. The use of the ligands as analytical reagents for the spectrophotometer determination of palladium ions is discussed.
