The influence of organic and inorganic gradients used in culture media to make a viable count/ml of drinking water supplies were determined. It was revealed that the bacterial population it affected by inorganic components more than organic ingradients, and it was also found that the culture medium used by Stark and McCoy (1938) modified by Collins and Willoughby (1962) gave higher bacterial density and none other was more better than the casein-peptone-starch medium (CP.S.) Among the laboratory techniques the spread plate count was found to be the best method for estimating the becterial population.
