Iodine is produced on-line in a flow injection system by injection of hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid into neutral or slightly alkaline iodide/iodate eluent and is determined ampeiomet-rically at a platinum electrode. Compounds that can be oxidized or iodinated by iodine are determined by incjecting them, in acid solution, into the iodide/iodate eluent and the excess of iodine after reaction with organic compound is determined by flow injection analysis amperometry at a platinum electrode. The reaction was incomplete in this direct injection but good reproducibility was obtained. Determination can also be made by injecting pre-reactcd solution of iodine and the organic compound in order to monitor the excess iodine.
