Electron donor-acceptor interactions between N,N'-dimethlanline and chloranil have been investigated in different solvents by electronic absorption spectroscopy. In corbon tetrachloride and More form only charge transfer band is obtained whereas in 1,2-dichloroethane, isopropanol methanol and acetonitrile solvents the interaction led to the reaction product, crystal violet . The kinetics are markedly affected by the solvent polarity. The substitution at para position in dimethylaniline finders the formation of the reaction product.
