The Solid metal complexes formed by the reaction of the tripositive ions (Al3+, Cr3+ and Fe3+) and the dipositive ions (Fe2+, Co2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+) with the disodium salt of congo red dye have beeen studied by elemental analysis, infra red,x-ray, TG & DTA measurements. The Chelates of the divalent metals were found to be [metal (congo red)]. x H2O and for the trivalent metals [ metal (congo CI2 x H2O) where x ranges from 3-6. Congo red acts as a bidentate ligand via its azo and amino groups.
