Murexide is available in two forms a monohydrated form and a pentahydrated one. They are different in colour, spectra and elemental analysis. Mercuration reactions with mercuric salts in polar and non-polar medium give different mercurated products. The structures are confirmed by analytical data, IRf UV/visible and MS spectra.
