Niobium (V) complexes of the type Nb, L Cl3 and NbL2CI3 [where L is a doubly deprotonated thiocarbonydrazone and L' is singly deprotonated Schiff base of 3-substituted-4-amino-5-mercapto- 1,2,4-triazole] have been prepared in chloroform. The complexes have been characterised by elemental and conductance measurements. The infrared spectra indicate that the ligands have reacted with niobium (V) chloride through azomethine nitrogen and pheraic oxygen. These observations suggest that niobium (V) In these complexes exhibits coordination number of seven.
