The environmental monitoring data becomes credible when systematic analytical quality control exercises are carried out as its intrinsic component With this background a study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of Flame-AAS in terms of accuracy and overall precision for estimation of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni & Zn at trace levels,in seawater samples. To facilitate preconcentranon of metals under study, techniques viz., ion-exchange and solvent extraction have been adopted .Through the statistical analysis of analytical values a comparison has been made for two different concentrations of eiuc-nt (HNO3) used in ion-exchange and also between the two preconcentration techniques.
