2-hydroxy-3,4-benzoacetophenone(l) condenses with substituted benzaldehyde in DMF in presence of pulvarised KOH gives Chalcones (lla-d). Chaicone (lla-d) reacts with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol gives pyrazolines (llla-d), pyrazoline (llla-d) reacts with acetic acid gives 1 -acetyl-pyrazoline (IVa-d), pyrazoline (llla-1 d) reacts with benzoyl chloride in pyridine medium gives 1 -benzoyl pyrazoline (Va-d). Pyrazoline (llla-d) reactswith sodium nitrite give 1 -nitroso pyrazoline (Vla-d). The structure was established on the basis of spectral data, IR and NMR. Antimicrobial activity of these compounds assayed against test organism S. aureus, S.dysentariae,S. typhi, E.coli, K. pneumonie, P. mirabilis. The activity of these compounds were compared with standard drug chforamphenicol
KEYWORDS:Pyrazoline; benzaldehyde; DMF; chforamphenicol
