Complexes of oxovanadium (IV) with a new series of Schiff bases derived from 2,2'-dihydroxychalcones have been prepared in an alcoholic medium. The complexes conform to the stoichiometry of the type VOL2. The i.r. spectra indicate the involvement of C=N group in coordination and deprotonation of the OH group. The complexes show normal magnetic moments devoid of spin interactions. The electronic spectra have been interpreted in the light of the BG model. From these observations, it is suggested that oxovanadium (IV) is penta-coordinated in these complexes.
