The interaction of Cu(ll) with 6-ethyl-7-hydroxy-4-methyl coumarin (Ligand 1), 3-chloro-7-hydroxy-4-methyl coumarin (Ligand 2), and 4,6-dimethyl-7-hydroxy coumarin (Ligand 3) has been investigated in 70% dioxane-water mixture at 0.1 M Ionic strength pH metrically. It is observed that copper ion (Cu2+) forms 1:1 and 1:2 complexes with all ligands. Proton-ligand and metal ligand stability constants have been determined by Bjerrum method as adopted by Calvin and Wilson. The data of pK and log K values obtained from this technique was used to: i) Verify the relation log K = apK + B and 0) Study the effect of electron-wtthd rawing group (-chloro) on the stability constants.
