The kinetics of the reaction between hydrazine and iodine has been studied under the conditions of production of iodine at a known rate by the persulfate-iodine reaction and its consumption by hydrazine. The effective concentration of iodine during the steady state is measured from its redox potential at a bright platinum foil electrode. Hydrazine reacts rapidly with iodine and at 25°C the specific reaction rats is 5 .16 x 103 M-1S-1 The energy of activation, frequency factor and the entropy of activation are 28.6k J Mole 1.39 x 108 M1S"' and -97J Mole-1 deg-1 respectively.
KEYWORDS:hydrazine; concentration; persulfate-iodine frequency
