ABSTRACT:

The present work embodies screening of about 450 individuals for b-thalassemia carrier detection through NESTROFT and CBC. Of 450 individuals, 125 individuals were found to be NESTROFT positive and 325 were found negative. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive and negative predictive values were found to be 100%, 98.5%, 96% and 100% respectively. The efficiency of the NESTROFT was found to be 98.8%. Of the 125 NESTROFT positive individuals, 50 individuals were subjected to CBC analysis and it was found that the hematological parameters like Hb level, red cell count, PCV/HCT, MCV, MCH and MCHC levels varied from 8.1-14.4 g/dl with a mean of 10.63±0.21 g/dl, 2.57-9.80
