A new sensitive spectrophotometric determination of tellurium (IV) by using 9,10* phenanthraquinone guanylhydrazone (PQG) is reported .Physico-chemical studies of the complexation of tellurium with PQG are presented. A standard procedure of the absorption spectra of the reagent and the complex is developed The measurement is carried out at 370 nm (Molar extinction- coefficient is 1.9148 x 104 lit. mole-1 cm-1 at pH 7.68. Beer's law Is valid upto 6.0 ppm. Sandells sensitivity of tie method is 0.03416 μg/cm2. The job's variation and mole ratio method show that composition of Te (IV) - PQG complex is 1:2. The instability constant is 1.2056 x 10-R .The method is applied for the determination of tellurium in various synthetic mixtures.
