Mixed ligand complexes of the type Ln(L2) (L').2H2OCI, LN(L2") .2H2OCI and Ln(L2) (L1") .2H2O, where Ln = La (III), Pr (III). Nd (III). Sm (III). Gd (III), Dy (III). L = Ortho vanillin monoxime. L'=Diacetylmonoxime L" = 2-2* Bipyridyl and L" = N-phenylanthranilic acid, are prepared and characterised by a study of elemental analysis. Ultraviolet, visible, infrared, NMR spectral data, thermal analysis and conductivity measurements. A study of ultraviolet spectra gave an evidence about complexation. Visible spectra of Pr (III), Nd (III) and Sm(lll) complexes revealed nephelauxetic effect. The covalency parameter and 8% covalency values indicate strong interaction of lanthanide ions with the ligands. From the shift in the characteristic infrared frequencies of the free ligand bands on complexation the centres of coordination are fixed. Thermal data indicated the presence of coordinated water molecule. The molar conductance values in DMF and DMSO are indicative of 1 :1 electrolyte behaviour for O-VMO-DAMO and O-VMO-Bipyridyl mixed complexes and non electrolyte behaviour for O-VMO- NPAA complexes.
KEYWORDS:N-phenylanthranilic; monoxime; nephelauxetic Diacetylmonoxime
