Methylene bis thioacetamido diphenyl (MBTAD) C17H18N2S2O2, a new chelating agent and its complexes with Co(II), Fe(III), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) have been synthesised and characterised by different techniques like elemental analysis, magnetic moment, I.R. and electronic spectral studies etc. MBTAD forms thermally quite stable complexes of ML2 type. It forms square planar complex with Co(II), octahedral complex with Fe(III) and diamagnetic tetrahedral complexes with Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II).
