ABSTRACT:

Surface sediment collected from two transects (30 sampling points) in the Rompin mangrove forest has been analyzed for Co, Cu, Pb and Zn concentration with the ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry). In this study, the average concentration of Co, Cu, Pb and Zn were 5.93 ± 1.46 μg.g-1 dry weights, 14.6 ± 4.49 μg.g-1 dry weights, 115.3 ± 29.8 μg.g-1 dry weights and 45.5 ± 11.8 μg.g-1 dry weights. Generally, the concentrations of all metals studied showing a significant higher value near the riverside. The calculated enrichment factors (EF) obtained in this study for Co, Cu, Pb, and Zn can be considered to be dominantly terigenous in origin.
