4-Hydroxyquinolino-[1,2-b]-4-oxoquinazoline (HQOQ) used as coupling component, was prepared by the condensation of 2-methyl-3,1,4-benzoxazone with anthranilic acid giving 2-methyl-3-[1-carboxyphenyl]-4-oxoquinazoline followed by ring closure. Some new azo dyes were prepared by coupling HQOQ with various diazo components. The synthetic compounds were characterized by elemental and spectral analysis. The dyeing properties on various textile fabrics were investigated.
