ABSTRACT:

Studies were conducted to assess the potential of pheromone ratios for trapping and monitoring the population of Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) during 1999-2000. Standard pheromone traps (ICRISAT type) were baited with ratios of 97:3, 96:4 and 98:2 (Z-11-Hexadecenal and Z-9-Hexadecenal) are used in the chickpea field. On the basis of trap catches, the ratios of 97:3 proved to be most effective and stable as compared to other two ratios. The effectiveness of 97:3 ratios persisted for fairly long period that declined steadily with the lapse of time. The GC analysis of the ratios used in the traps indicated significant time related alteration in individual component percentages and that possibly influenced the eventual trapping of moths under field conditions.
