Fifteen N-(3-hydroxy-4'-R-azo-azobenzene)-8-quinolinesulfonamides(IVa-o) were prepared by coupling diazotised N-(3-hydroxy-4'-aminoazobenzene)-8-quinolinesulfonamide(III) with various coupling components (Ra-o). The compound (I) was coupled with diazotised p-aminoacetanilide giving compound (II), which on hydrolysis gave compound (III). The compounds (IVa-o) were characterised by elemental and spectral analyses and their dyeing performance on nylon, wool and silk fabrics were assessed.
