Thiazines are reported to exhibit biological activity. In the present investigations some 3-aroyl flavanones (2a-d) and 2-furyl-3-aroylchromanones (2e-f) were subjected to react with thiourea in pyridine to form respective 5-aroyl-4,6-aryl subjected-1,3-thiazines (3a-f). Their structures were confirmed by chemical properties, elemental and spectral analysis. The compounds synthesized were screened for their antibacterial activity individually and in combination against some Gram +ve and Gram -ve organisms by using Kirby-Baur's disc diffusion method. It has been observed that thiazines showed moderate antibacterial activity and indifference combined antibacterial activity against the test organisms at a concentration of 50μg compound per disc.
